When Molson rolled out this commercial last year featuring a beer fridge that could only be opened by a Canadian passport, I thought the existence of such a device was bullcrap.
But it appears the appliance actually exists and is in the athletes’ village for the Olympics in Sochi.

Need more evidence? Further digging shows the fridge also made an appearance in Detroit during the Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

What a world.
UPDATE: It’s definitely for real. From For the Win:
“We knew Sochi would be a great fit for the passport fridge, and Molson Coors has been long term partners with the Canadian Olympic Committee,” added Molson Coors spokesman Forest Kenney in an email. “As part (of) our collaboration, they invited us to play a role in the hospitality at their official Canada House in Olympic Village. The photo you may have seen circulating is actually one of the folks from our team at Canada House, using her passport to open the fridge.”
